History and Development

Aspire was born in the 1980s, originally part of Mencap; a UK charity for people with a learning disability.  At that time many long stay, residential hospitals across the country closed, so there was a need for local services providing support at home and in the community for people with learning disabilities.

Aspire was the name of the new organisation developed to deliver these services in Herefordshire.  We’re very proud of our name as it was chosen by the people we supported at the time.  They felt it reflected our values and culture – we do too!

Since then we have continued to develop, grow and respond to the needs of local individuals and Government policy, keeping up with national trends and reforms in health and social care.

Over the years, Aspire has grown to become a leading provider of services for people with a learning disability across Herefordshire.  We intend to replicate this track record in our new areas of operation; Worcestershire, Gloucestershire and South Gloucestershire.

We have an excellent track record and current awards show that we deliver excellent services.  Our current awards include Investors in People and ISO 9001.
