As an Aspire support worker, you will empower and encourage the people you support to:
• Choose what they want to do and how they want to do it
• Get out and about in the community
• Go on trips and holidays
• Spend time with their friends
• Spend time with other people who like doing the same things
• Where required, supporting people with their personal care
You will mainly be based at St Owen’s in Hereford; our central base and starting place for supporting people with a learning disability who need a little more support to get out and about. St Owen’s is a safe, supportive bridge for people who may not have the confidence to go out or spend much time in the community. You will support people to feel safe and choose where and what they want to do and so may work across the community team.
We recognise that all ‘behaviour’ is communication. As a member of our trained, knowledgeable and stable staff team, you will get to know the people you support and how they communicate. As an organisation, Aspire is committed to Positive Behavioural Support (PBS). Every member of staff across the organisation has training in PBS from our in-house trainer. You will use a range of strategies and procedures to recognise discomfort and triggers and support people who may not communicate verbally, to engage in proactive methods of behaviour management and control.
This role will include some evening and weekend work.
