Your home, your choice
Choosing where you live and who you live with
Choosing where you live
If you decide you would like to move to a new house, if you are thinking of moving from your family home to live on your own, or you would like to live with other people or a group of friends, come and talk to us.
Aspire can support you through the process of:
- Finding a home where you choose
- Buying or renting a home (privately or through a Registered Social Landlord)
- Finding suitable housemates
- Adapting your home so it meets all of your needs
- Liaising with funding bodies about aids and adaptations, including personal and assistive technology
- Advice with benefits, tenancies and purchase of a home
We work with our colleagues in Forward Housing, also part of the Thera Group of companies, to find homes for people in the community. Forward Housing is a charity that provides bespoke housing for people with a learning disability, including if you have complex needs or physical disability.
Choosing who you live with
It is really important that you get on with the people you will live with. If you and some friends decide you want to live together, we will work with you and your circle of support to find you a suitable house. If you want to live in a shared house but don’t have anyone in mind to share with, we will work with you to find suitable people to share your house.
When helping people to find someone to live with we work very closely with other important stakeholders including commissioners and funders.
If you would like to know more, please get in touch with us.
Safe and Secure
Thera Group, of which Aspire is a member, has published a book called Safe and Secure. It has lots of information about housing options for people who have a learning disability and support to plan for the future.
