Need a bit more support?

You may need support to get out and about, but that doesn’t mean that you can’t choose what you want to do!

Everyone has a right to choose how they spend their time, regardless of their communication or support needs.

Our staff teams will empower you to choose what you want to do, getting out and about in your community, going on trips or on holiday, or spending time with your friends and other people who like doing the same things as you do.

Aspire@St Owen’s in central Hereford is a great base and starting place for your adventures in the community.  It is a safe place for you to go back to if you need a few minutes peace on your day out, want to stop for a cup of tea or to use the fully accessible loo.  It is a strong and supportive bridge for people who may not have the confidence to go out or spend much time in the community, so you can feel safe and choose where and what you  do.

Our well trained and committed team have a wide range of skills and will respond to all your needs.

As an organisation we are committed to Positive Behavioural Support. We recognise that all ‘behaviour’ is communication. Our knowledgeable and stable staff teams will get to know you and how you communicate so they learn when you are happy and what you like to do – as well as what you don’t like!

Every member of staff across the organisation, in every role, has training in Positive Behavioural Support from our own in-house trainer.  We have a no-restraint policy and use a range of strategies and procedures including PROACT-SCIPr-UK® (Positive Range of Options to Avoid Crisis and use Therapy – Strategies for Crisis Intervention).  This strategy focusses on supporting staff to recognise discomfort and triggers and support people, particularly who may not communicate verbally, to engage in proactive methods of behaviour management and control.

If you use signing to communicate the team based at Aspire@St Owen’s is trained in Signalong so you will be able to have a chat from the moment you arrive.
